Palazzo Francesconi is a historical palace dating back to the early 15th century. The initial design of this building is attributed to the famous Baldassere Peruzzi in the early part of the XVI century (precisely 1520), while the completion of the building is attributed to the architect Pietro Cataneo.
BRIEF ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION
One of the most important examples of sienese architecture from the 15th century, the uncompleted palace in Via del Cavallerizzo has been renovated as an antique residence.
The antique palace, facing Piazza Gramsci, on the corner of Via del Cavallerizzo, is formed principally by two sides: one which faces the piazza, highly evidenced by the original tinted vestment and framed windows; and the other side facing Via del Cavallerizzo, delicately decorated in the 15th century style with marble, which frames the windows of the first and top floors of the noble palace and the respective middle floors. The design includes the use of this precious material to form the borders along the palace, running on the outside of the brick structure.
From the main entry from Piazza Gramsci, one enters towards the main stairs which have access to the five floors above. The service stairs are formed by two ramps, with walls running along the spiral staircase design, which bring one to the floors of the antique residence.
In the center of the court, there is an old open gallery, encased with elegant colums and horn designs.
In the living rooms of the nobile floor, the frescoes of Baldassarre Peruzzi have been conserved to their original state; the frescoed ceilings of the rooms on the first and third floor date back to the XIX century.
